Things to do
The South Side of Edinburgh is where you will find the National Museum of Scotland which is an essential attraction for any visitor to Edinburgh. You’ll also see a mix of grand old architecture and cutting-edge design in the shape of the Edinburgh University’s many buildings. Just at the Eastern edge of the South Side, you’ll find the Crags and Arthur’s Seat which afford splendid views over the neighbourhood and the city beyond it. If you want to relax with a picnic then make for the popular The Meadows public park.
You’ll find all sorts of restaurants in the South Side and most of them are relaxed, friendly, and very reasonably priced. If you like a bit of spice then Kismot is unmissable because they offer a curry with the hottest chillies in the world. You can also find vegetarian Indian cuisine at Kalpna and a wide range of tasty, spicy food at Mother India’s Cafe. Another excellent Indian restaurant that’s well worth a visit is Suruchi. When it comes to the finest Indian cuisine you are really spoilt for choice.
The South Side is the most popular student area of the city as it is home to Edinburgh University. You’ll find that, as a consequence, the pubs and bars are all friendly and relaxed with a real mix of clientele. If you manage to find a sunny day then make sure to head for the Pear Tree House because it has an excellent beer garden. You won’t ever have to go far to find a pub on the South Side of Edinburgh.
